Ghellinck Castle was completed in 1786, and was designed by Barnabé Guimard, a student of Jacques IV Angel Gabriel (who rebuilt Versailles) and also by the architect of the Koningsplein (King square) and the Warandeplein in Brussels.

The castle was built for Alphonse Pierre Antoine Baut de Rasmon, the influential son of a wealthy Ghent family. The park was designed by the German horticulturalist Hirshfeld, and there is a memorial stone in the park to commemorate his achievement.

Ghellinck Castle is built on a hillock overlooking Ghent. It has been entirely renovated in the original style but to modern standards. The park is in perfect condition and the whole estate forms a little bit of paradise on earth.
